Some of you have asked about our work - what we do, how many hours we work, if we find it difficult - so here goes.

We work for Delaware North at the Fishing Bridge General Store, which is located pretty much in the middle of Yellowstone National Park. Our store is quite large and has LOTS of t-shirts, sweatshirts, all kinds of souvenirs, a camping section, a small grocery store and a fountain/grill (food & ice cream).

I work as a stocker in the apparel/gifts area which means I take note of things that are missing and I find them in the storage areas and replace or restock them. It's not difficult and doesn't take a lot of brain power, but it is quite challenging physically. All of the apparel storage is located upstairs and all of the extra gifts/souvenirs are stored in the basement, so any time I need to get more stock I have to walk up and/or down a flight of stairs. The store is VERY busy so for example, once I have inventoried and fully stocked all 25 racks of t-shirts, I have to start over again because the first ones are half empty.

Bob is also a stocker, but he works in the grocery area. He spends lots of time checking expiration dates, arranging shelves and putting out more bread or catsup or wine. He doesn't have as much up and down but he has to pay attention to details.

We are both really enjoying not being in charge, not being responsible, not having to do things like order supplies or supervise others - no stress. We are happy to show up and do the grunt work and leave without worries. The only down side is we do the grunt work. HA!

Each week we work one of three shifts (7:30 am - 3:00 pm, 10:30 am - 6:30 pm or 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm) and the next week we rotate to another. Bob and I have the same shifts and the same 2 days off.

Break time in the dining room

To be completely honest, the job has been harder than we thought it would be but we are persevering. Just to give you an idea - today I did 16,283 steps (7.3 miles) and I went up/down the stairs 49 times (I counted today cause I was curious - not doing that again!). Some of you may remember I had a car accident 20+ years ago resulting in pins/screws in one of my ankles and it is NOT happy at the end of my day. Bottom line, we are sleeping a lot and eating lots of ibuprofen and extra strength Tylenol.

After work last night we drove to the employee pub down the road to get pizza and beer and this guy was hanging out by the parking lot right in front of our truck.

So in summary ... the work is really hard but these are our views on our way home. Pretty spectacular!
